The sudden change from dark to light illustrates to the audience the comparison of how Rick was happy in Paris and unhappy now. The final scene in Paris, where Rick is waiting under the rain for the train, the cloudy gloomy clouds and dimmed lighting on the scene indicates that Ilsa will not be showing up.
