The Subject of War in Poetry from Different Time PeriodsDulce e Decorum est by Wilfred Owen, suicide In the Trenches by Siegfried Sassoon and The Charge of the Light aggroup by Alfred Tennyson.From studying the selection of texts (Poetry and Prose) what have youlearnt some the diverse path writers from different plosive consonants dealwith the study of war.The threesome poems that I have chosen to talk about are Dulce e Decorumest by Wilfred Owen, Suicide In the Trenches by Siegfried Sassoonand The Charge of the Light brigade by Alfred Tennyson. I will lookat the three poems different opinions on war and how they compare and course from each other. I will overly take into account the way thepoets background may of affected there views. The poets come from a come together fourth dimension period but with different views Suicide In The Trenchesand Dulce e Decorum est are from the World War One era and TheCharge of The Light Brigade form the Crimean War..Alfred Tennyson, Sieg fried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen all come fromdifferent backgrounds which alters the way they write, and the waythey disgorge there opinions across.Tennyson was a rich, public school student, proud of Britainsconquests around the hu patch being but never fought himself, so had no firstperson experience of fighting. Owen contrasts to this as he didnthave a lot of riches and was no more then a vernacular soldier. Sassoonwas an army officer but still was quit rich and never got the fulltaste of trench warfare during World War One. This shows straight bythat the three writers were all brought up with different views andbackgrounds which would definitely affect the way they write.The way that Tennyson writes, is the way a man who has never... ... The Crimean War didnt exchangehistory, but still Britain suffered a terrible loss of men. Tennysonand the rest of Britain was not used to this, so Tennyson wrote aboutthe subject of war in a actually positive way.Owen and Sassoon experience d the great war and saw the terrible lossesfirst hand. They instead of showing how Britain was doing well, theywrote about how people were dying innocently. In the period Owen andSassoon were writing in, Britain faced an uncertain future and Owensand Sassoons poem complement this aspect of life. They both try to unhorse across the truth and reality in there poems. The World War Oneperiod made writers like Sassoon and Owen write in this style. UnlikeTennyson they put across all the negative aspects and stuck close tothe point. Although Britain won World War One writers from this periodwrote in a negative manner.
